How overtime pay works
In the United States many hourly workers earn extra pay for hours worked over 40 in a week. The usual rate is time and a half, which is 1.5 times the regular hourly rate. Enter your hourly rate, your regular hours, your overtime hours and the multiplier.
The formula
Regular pay = rate × regular hours. Overtime pay = rate × multiplier × overtime hours. Total pay = regular pay + overtime pay.
Example
At $20 an hour with 40 regular hours and 8 overtime hours at 1.5, regular pay is $800, overtime pay is $240 and total pay is $1,040 before taxes.
Tips
