How this salary to hourly calculator works

Enter your yearly salary, the hours you work in a typical week and the number of weeks you work in a year. The calculator divides your salary by your total yearly hours to show your hourly wage, and also shows weekly, biweekly and monthly pay before taxes.

The formula

Hourly wage = yearly salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). For a standard full-time job that is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so hourly wage = salary ÷ 2,080.

Example

A $60,000 salary with 40 hours a week for 52 weeks works out to $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour. That is about $1,153.85 a week, $2,307.69 every two weeks and $5,000 a month, all before tax.

Why your real hourly rate may be different

If you regularly work more than 40 hours, your effective hourly rate is lower than the standard figure. A $60,000 salary over 50 hours a week is about $23.08 an hour. Change the hours per week to see your own number.

Tips

Salaried jobs often include paid time off, health insurance and retirement contributions, so compare the whole package and not only the hourly figure. Amounts shown are gross pay. To go the other way, use our Hourly to Salary Calculator, and read our guide on converting hourly wage to salary.
